The “Don’t Stare, Just Care” Walk was created as a community-driven initiative to promote awareness, inclusion, and advocacy for individuals with disabilities, neurodivergence, and special needs. The walk emphasizes compassion over curiosity, encouraging people to move beyond staring or misunderstanding those who experience life differently and instead engage in education, support, and meaningful action.
"BEST truly changed my life. Mrs. Alexis took me to the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities (BDS) office, helped me visit homes, and let me choose where I wanted to live.
She introduced me to staff members so l could decide who I wanted to work with. She went above and beyond, knowing she didn't have to. She could have easily said,
"Jordan, you need to go back to where you were living," but she didn't.
When I couldn't speak for myself, she spoke up for me.
She even gave me money once to help with laundry. She helped me furnish my home, getting me a light stand, a lamp, a bed, a dresser, a kitchen table, a microwave, chairs, living room furniture, and a chair for my bedroom.
She also helped me get a new cell phone. On top of all that, she helps me pay my rent, utilities, and even my Tithes."

"Alexis Nelson is a phenomenal IEP Support Advocate for my daughters Charisma and Cyncere. She is readily accessible for council, and she always makes time and an effort to attend IEP meetings in a punctual manner...she is very well-organized and very knowledgeable of the law and student/parent rights as they pertain to the school district, and she offers great feedback, support and a fresh perspective during every IEP meeting...she is also not afraid to ask those hard hitting questions that a parent may not know to ask or that may be uncomfortable. I now feel more confident, more informed, and supported when I attend IEP meetings with Mrs. Nelson, and I am also truly thankful to have had the opportunity to utilize her services."

I cannot thank Alexis Nelson and B.E.S.T enough for the support and guidance provided during a challenging time for my family. Alexis assisted us in setting up a Power of Attorney , ensuring my niece Tymecia affairs were properly managed and legality.
Mrs. Nelson walked us through the process of becoming an authorized payee simplifying the task.
Mrs. Nelson and B.E.ST help me with the Medicaid waiver application, ensuring we met all requirements Without the assistanceof B.E.S.T, we would have struggled the paper work.
Thanks to Alexis Nelson and B.E.S.T dedication, professionalism,
Hulian
