Be Exceptional Support Together (B.E.S.T.) aims to break down barriers and enhance the accessibility of services for special needs individuals in lower-income and minority populations through comprehensive support, advocacy, and innovative programs utilizing our R.A.I.S.E. Care model.

Alexis A. Nelson, Chief Executive Officer
Alexis Nelson's aspiration was to cultivate a nurturing environment for individuals and families facing challenges without adequate resources. Her educational background, coupled with her personal journey, ignited her dedication to creating a sanctuary for exceptional families.
Having earned a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Communications and a Master's degree in Social Work from Indiana University, Alexis boasts a diverse skill set and extensive experience. She holds certifications as a Maxwell Certified Team Member, Author, Certified SYMBIS Facilitator/Trainer, Ordained Minister, Pastoral Care Specialist, and Notary Public. Furthermore, Alexis is actively involved as a field instructor for social work students at Indiana University. Alexis Nelson, in addition, serves as a community engagement specialist, acting as a liaison to bring valuable programs to the community.
Through her tenure as a social worker, Alexis gained firsthand insight into the challenges faced by families in need. Her role as a parent to a child with exceptional abilities further deepened her empathy and understanding.
As the Founder and CEO of Be Exceptional Support Together (B.E.S.T.) and Coaching Toward Purpose, Alexis is committed to providing comfort, compassion, resources, and educational support to individuals and families navigating their unique journeys. Leveraging her expertise in personal development, relationship building, and leadership, she offers comprehensive counseling and support services. Alexis's fervor for motivating and empowering others extends to her role as a Maxwell Leadership Certified Speaker, Teacher, Trainer, and Coach, guiding individuals to rediscover their purpose and maximize their potential.
Through her unwavering dedication and compassionate guidance, Alexis empowers individuals to embrace their inherent strengths and fulfill their divine purpose.
David E. Nelson, Vice President
David Enoch Nelson Sr., a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, proudly serves as the CEO of the HELPS Clinic and Resource Center located in Gary, Indiana. Beyond his medical expertise, David is a devoted Pastor who exemplifies the love of God through his compassionate care and by imparting sound doctrine to those he serves.
David's educational journey includes earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University Northwest and a Master of Science in Nursing from Purdue University Calumet. His extensive medical background encompasses various fields, including Emergency Medicine, Information Technology, Acute Care, and Family Practice. With a deep-rooted commitment to serving uninsured or underinsured individuals in inner-city communities, David founded the H.E.L.P.S. Clinic.
Driven by a divine calling, David established the clinic to offer no-cost healthcare services to Gary residents, alongside resources to address diverse aspects of their lives. His mission is to facilitate lifestyle changes by equipping the community with the necessary tools for longevity and wellness. David's dedication extends to community education across all age groups, as he empowers individuals with knowledge to enhance their overall well-being.
David Enoch Nelson Sr. remains unwavering in his resolve to uplift the community, leveraging the transformative power of education to make a lasting impact on the lives of those he serves.
Pamela A. Gipson, Secretary
Pamela Gipson dedicated 29 years to Regional Mental Health, specializing in supporting chronically ill adults and teenagers. Her roles included teaching life skills, counseling, and conducting reviews. She also fundraised from companies to provide community activities, organizing a banquet and a trip to Chicago. Though retired in 2018, Pamela continues to serve the special needs community, offering steadfast support and advocacy.
Toni Russell, Board Member
For the past 24 years, Toni Russell has dedicated herself to serving the exceptional community as a passionate advocate for those in need of resources. Her unwavering commitment to educating and uplifting this community is evident in the profound impact she has made on countless lives. As an ordained Minister and gospel educator, Toni brings a unique blend of spiritual insight and educational expertise to her work. In addition to her advocacy and educational roles, Toni also serves as an insurance review specialist, leveraging her knowledge to assist families in navigating the complexities of insurance processes.
Toni's journey began as a mother welcoming an exceptional child into her life, providing her with firsthand experience and invaluable insights into overcoming the challenges of this journey. Empowered by the tools and wisdom acquired along the way, Toni is driven by a heartfelt desire to support others facing similar challenges. Her mission is clear: to ensure that every member of the exceptional community has the resources and support needed to thrive.
